John was born in Springfield, Arkansas to the late Jean Tyson and is the grandson of John W. Tyson, founder of Tyson Foods, Inc.  He received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1975 from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas.  He lives in Arkansas and serves as the chairman of Tyson Foods, Inc. board of directors; he also served on the University Of Arkansas's board Of trustees and is on the board for the Walden Woods Project.  John serves as a benefactor to the Bridge School and is a Eucharistic minister at St. Thomas Episcopal Church.  He has received many awards and recognition, some of which include the Woodrow Wilson Award for Corporate Citizenship and Arkansas Poultry Industry Man of the Year. John is actively involved in the well-being and education of children in Arkansas. He himself has two children.
