David Aufhauser is Senior Counsel at Williams & Connolly, where he previously served on the firm’s Executive Committee and currently serves as Co-Chair of the Anti-Money Laundering & Economic Sanctions practice group. He has a diverse practice in investigations and litigation with particular focus on sanctions, corporate board counseling and cross border financial controversies. Prior to joining Williams & Connolly, David served as General Counsel of the U.S. Treasury Department and the investment bank of UBS.
At the Treasury, David supervised legal functions in International Affairs, Domestic Banking and Finance, Enforcement, the Internal Revenue Service (“IRS”), the U.S. Bureau of Customs (“BOC”), the Office of Foreign Asset Controls (“OFAC”), the Secret Service, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (“ATF”) and the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (“FinCen”). He also served as the Secretary's representative on the Department of Justice (“DOJ”) Corporate Fraud Task Force and the Chairman of the National Security Council's (“NSC”) policy coordinating committee on terrorist financing.
For his public service, David was awarded the Treasury Department's highest honor, the Alexander Hamilton Award, and received awards for leadership and distinction in diplomacy, intelligence and law enforcement from the U.S. Department of State (“DOS”), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (“FBI”), the Central Intelligence Agency (“CIA”), and the Secret Service.
David has testified frequently before Congress and has been a guest lecturer at the law schools of Harvard University, the University of Chicago, the University of Pennsylvania and Georgetown University, and at MIT’s Sloan School of Management, Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, the New School, the Brookings Institution, and the Council on Foreign Relations (“CFR”). He previously served as a senior adviser at the Center for Strategic & International Studies (“CSIS”). David currently serves as a director of the Atlantic Council, and a member of the CFR and the Washington Institute of Foreign Affairs.
David is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Wesleyan University, and received an MBA from Harvard Business School, and a JD from the University of Pennsylvania Law School. He resides in Washington, D.C. with his wife and three children.
JANE DANA

Jane Dana, the spouse of PathNorth member David Aufhauser, is a native of Columbia, South Carolina. She received her BA with Honors and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She received her JD from the Columbia University School of Law, where she was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar.
Jane clerked for the Hon. Leonard P. Moore, United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, before moving to Washington, DC, where she met David. She worked in both private practice and the Office of the Legal Adviser for the U.S. State Department before taking time off from legal practice to raise her 3 children and volunteer in the community. Jane returned to government service as the Deputy General Counsel and Acting General Counsel of the U.S. Department of Commerce and as General Counsel of the U.S. Agency for International Development.
Jane has served in a range of civic capacities at her children’s and other schools and her church. She served on the St. Columba’s Nursery School Board from 1995-2001. From 2011-13, Jane served as President and Board member of the House of Mercy Ladies Board in Washington D.C. She has been involved with the Bishop John T. Walker School for Boys (BWS) since its first academic year in 2008 and joined the BWS Board in 2016, serving as Finance Chair for six years. Jane has also played an active role in her church over the years and is currently serving as Training and Recruitment Co-Chair for the Flower Guild and as a member of the Pastoral Care Team. She also is active in the Evergreen Garden Club, having served as Programs Chair, President, and Website Coordinator over the past few years.
