Morocco is truly an oasis—from its stable, enlightened and modern government, to its deep history replete with cultural riches for all the senses. In the broad swath of North and Saharan Africa, it is the crown jewel, the refreshing and welcoming oasis to locals and visitors alike.
Morocco borders the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea, and with a history stretching back nearly 10,000, Morocco is a crossroads distinguished by its Berber, Arabian and European cultural influences. Geographically, it is a fascinating blend of ancient cities, sweeping sand dunes and craggy mountains edged by fertile valleys. Few countries hold as much dreamy fascination—desert fortresses rise out of desert sands, sapphire oceans caress white sandy beaches, the purple peaks of the Atlas Mountains glitter with snow.
Three of the essential experiences in Morocco are those of the teeming cities, the expansive desert and the soaring mountains. The old cities (medinas) of the imperial capitals such as Fez and Marrakech are intense, sensual places, where daily life pushes through narrow streets and cool palaces hide behind mysterious portals. The desert is endless sand and sky, uncomplicated but powerful. The mountain snows provide both life sustaining water and temperate climate.
Our journey will capture the heart and soul of one of the world’s most intriguing countries—from the glories of imperial cities to the spectacular countryside. In true PathNorth fashion, we will experience the history and culture of this incredible African nation as we meet experts in economic development and intercultural dialogue, non-profit leaders changing the socio-economic landscape for females and a variety of artists and performers who make up the colorful fabric of Morocco. Along the way, we will be treated to many surprises as we open our hearts and minds to new people and ideas.
